Moving Poet’s “Heaven,” Charlotte, NC, USA
Artistic Director Kim Jones and E.E. Balcos created a new duet for Moving Poets’ performance, Heaven, at the Booth Playhouse. Told through contemporary dance, theater, music, film, video-mapping, and visual arts, the story travels through the realities and dreams of Maria Elena, a detained immigrant child. It involved a community of artists of different cultures, age groups, and disciplines. The work highlights the challenges of migration and displacement. It celebrates the culturally diverse, rich experiences and valuable contributions of natives and immigrants to our community.
