"Dido and Aeneas" Presented by Queens University of Charlotte

Movement Migration has been invited to perform in Queen University of Charlotte’s upcoming production of “Dido and Aeneas,” one of the most beloved English operas of all time! 

In 1689, near the end of his life, the great English composer Henry Purcell composed the tragic opera “Dido and Aeneas,” and the sacred ode “Celestial Music did the Gods Inspire.” Queens Choirs will perform both works in collaboration with dancers, including Movement Migration, and scenic designers.

The concert includes performance by the Queens Choral Union, Royal Voices of Charlotte, under the direction of Justin Smith, the North Carolina Baroque Orchestra under direction of Francis Blaker, and Movement Migration under the direction of Artistic Director Kim Jones. Queens Graphic Design Students, under the instruction of Lauren Glase, were also involved in the collaboration. 

Movement Migration will perform three new works by three company artists that will be inspired by the opera and performed to live music by the Queens Choral Union. Choreographers include 

Kim Jones, Alyce Cristina Vallejo, and Dominique Willis, and will be performed by UNC Charlotte Department of Dance students, including Ava Guest, Kari Secourka, Alexis Holloway, Aliyah March, Laura Velez-Figueroa, Katie Foster, and Janise L.Rodriguez.
