ABOUT

Meet Movement Migration

Movement Migration is a collective of seasoned dance artists collaborating to create and perform dynamic and poignant dance works that portray the depths of the human experience; the dances are shared with audiences locally and globally in performance and educational venues. Directed by Kim Jones, the ensemble’s members achieved professional expertise in distinct technical training and performance disciplines.

The group members come from many places in the world and span four decades in age. From these varied backgrounds, the artists bring their passions, freedom, and inexplicable beauty of expression. “Migration” signals the transformation and convergence of technical training and individual approaches into a collective creativity that traverses cultural boundaries and transfers movement knowledge from person to person and community to community.

Diversity Statement & Values

Diversity, equity, and inclusion: Diversity is at the core of Movement Migration, foundational to our ethos. We are not only a collective of dancers; we are a community that spans nationalities, races, ethnicities, generations, cultures, sexual identities and represents different ways of being, thinking, and moving in the world. In classes and performances, we present the real people we are and are inspired by. Our programs explore the complexities and nuance of difference and the joy and vibrance of a community where those differences are honored. By embracing and celebrating different cultures, individuals, and ways of moving, we hope to live true to our company’s name and create the bridge for movement to migrate between artists and communities.

Ethical stewardship: We believe where the money comes from and how we spend it matters. We hold ourselves responsible for not only securing funding in alignment with our values but also making sure that as many of those funds as possible go to the dance artists who gift us with their many talents.

Responsible impact: We commit to making as much impact as possible in supporting a global community of dance and dance artists. At the same time, we look to limit our impact on the natural environment and its precious resources.
